Creating a New Experiment

Starting a new experiment in EventIDE is straightforward and flexible. You can begin from scratch, use a template, or explore existing demo experiments for inspiration.

Starting a New Project


To create a new experiment:

  1. Click the Application Menu Button in the top-left corner of the EventIDE window.

  2. In the Application Menu, select New.

On the right-hand side of the window, you’ll see two main options:

Create Blank Experiment – Click this button to start a new, empty project.

Use a Template – Choose from a variety of pre-built templates, organized into expandable categories:

  • Classic Paradigms

  • Standard Paradigms

  • Eye Tracking

  • Usability Research

  • Miscellaneous

  • Base Templates

These templates offer a helpful starting point for common experimental designs and are fully customizable once loaded.

Opening a Demo Experiment


To explore existing demos:

  1. Go to Application Menu > Demos.

  2. Choose from the following options:

Online Experiment Gallery – Browse and download demo experiments from EventIDE’s official online collection.

Local Demo Collection – Select from demo experiments stored on your computer, arranged into expandable categories such as:

  • Classic Paradigms

  • Psychological Methods

  • Usability Research

  • Signal Processing

  • ...and more.

Demos are ideal for learning how specific features work, examining code snippets, or repurposing tested components in your own designs.

Saving Your Work


Don’t forget to save your experiment regularly. You can do this via:

  • The Application Menu (Save, Save As)

  • The Quick Access Toolbar in the Title Bar (Save icon)

Tip: EventIDE automatically reopens your last active experiment when you launch the software next time, saving you time during ongoing projects.
