Updating EventIDE

In this article:

EventIDE is actively maintained and regularly updated with new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes. You can update EventIDE on both online and offline computers, provided your license includes a valid updates subscription. This section outlines both update methods and important details to help manage multiple versions.

Updating on a Computer with Internet Connection

  1. Open EventIDE.

  2. Go to the Application Menu → Updates.

This section displays the full history of available EventIDE versions.

  3. Select a Version to Install.

You can download and install any version released within the active period of your updates subscription, including older versions. This is useful if you need to revert to a previous version for compatibility or testing.

  4. Choose a Download Option.

    1. Installer: Overwrites the currently installed version of EventIDE.

    2. Portable: Installs the selected version in a new folder, allowing you to run it in parallel with the previous version.

Important: If you open and save your experiment file in a newer version of EventIDE, it may become incompatible with older versions. Always keep backups of your .eve files when switching versions.

  5. Complete the Installation.

Follow the on-screen instructions. EventIDE will restart after installation if using the installer version.

Updating on a Computer without Internet Access

If your experiment computer does not have internet access, you can manually transfer updates from another machine.

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. On a Computer with Internet Access:

    1. Go to the EventIDE Download Page.

    2. Download the required version of EventIDE (Installer or Portable).

    3. Save the installer or portable archive to a USB drive or external storage.

  2. On the Offline Computer:

    1. Transfer the installer via USB or external drive.

    2. Close any running instance of EventIDE before proceeding.

    3. Run the installer to update your version, or extract the Portable version to a new directory if you want to keep the older version.

Your license activation will remain valid after the update, as long as your subscription covers the new version.

If you attempt to run a version released after your subscription has expired, EventIDE will notify you, and the software will not launch.

Managing Multiple Versions

You can keep multiple versions of EventIDE installed using the Portable version. This is helpful for testing or maintaining compatibility across different projects.

If you work with collaborators or transfer experiment files between machines, make sure all systems use compatible versions.

Opening and saving an experiment file in a newer version may prevent it from being reopened in an older version.

Verifying Subscription Coverage

To check if your license allows installation of a specific version:

  • Go to Application Menu → License Manager.

  • Check the subscription end date.

  • Make sure the selected EventIDE version was released before that date.

If your subscription has expired, you can continue using your currently installed version, but you’ll need to renew the subscription to install newer updates.
